Diamond Grading LabsWhen researching about diamonds you will undoubtably come across the four cs. Often you will come across a fifth c, certification. A good lab will grade your diamond stringently and consistently and then present you with value for each of the 4cs.
This is extremely important for the buyer and the seller. Without proper accreditation from a reputable grading lab there is always the chance of being undersold. You could end up paying more for a diamond that appears to have good cut, clarity, carat and colour values, but is not from a reputable lab and therefore may not be accurate.
This becomes especially important if you are intending to buy the diamond as an investment because a jewelry dealer will know whether a labs grade report can be trusted or whether the lab an inconsistent and consequently you will get a lower price. Why should the dealer pay higher for something he cannot sure is accurate.
In order to ensure your report is valid we can recommend the following labs: GIA (inventors of the diamond standards for clarity, colour, cut and carat), AGS, IGI and HRD. All of these lab follow stringent operating procedures and offer consistent and objective grading, if your lab is not one of these, do not use it. |
